yukinojou: (Tomomin)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] arlecchinic, I am now able to indulge my Tomomin love. Lots and lots and lots. Starting with her shinko lead.

No. Wait. SHINKO LEAD.

There. That's better.

That was the main reason I wanted to see the El Halcon shinjinkouen, but now that I've watched it, I recommend it to anyone who likes current Hoshigumi. The display of talent is dazzling. And the adorableness.

Tomomin, I'm predictable about - she's just My Type of Otokoyaku, wide-eyed and subtle and passionate and commanding, as well as goofy when the above is not applicable. Her take on Tyrian's different than Touko's: this is a corsair who knows quite well that he's crazy, passionate, and one step away from Bedlam - which is why he stomps so hard on the craziness when in public. He's self-aware, which makes it all even more tragic; I got the feeling that all his actions are a desperate attempt at self-preservation, that inside he's still the little boy who killed his own father to save the mentor that was supposed to protect him. He shows this side only to a few people: Gilda, dead!Gerard, and Nicholas.

Incidentally, I want a Renta. No, seriously. Her Nicholas is the most adoring puppy ever, and for a role that calls only for looking up adoringly at Tomomin, she managed to imbue it with surprising passion and competence, as well as madness of her own (no-one should look this gleeful at the chance to get blown up).

Kitori Mariya was a very good Gilda, with a lot more fury than Asuka. She caught my eye in the honkouen as Juliette, and here she's a grown-up version, with passion to match and meet Tyrian in the middle. I like the onnayaku way she pitches her voice, and yet makes it work with Tomomin's middle-high tone. And the chemistry's definitely there - the whole scene in Tyrian's quarters was sizzling.

And since I mentioned Gerard - Tsurumi Mayuu ♥ She managed to convey the strength and idealism there so well.

Back to musumeyaku, Haruko was most adorable and perky as Juliette. She didn't share much stage-time with Tomomin, but I'm eagerly awaiting their pairing in Skyscraper Rhapsody :)

Mahiro Shun - this was my first really good look at her, and I can see what a loss she was as part of last year's Hoshigumi star track exodus. She has a great voice on her, very nice dancing and that fire/charisma that makes a star. She also had a very good rapport with Tomomin and Makaze.

Speaking of Makaze Suzuho, Miss Mizu Junior completely stole her scenes :D When this one's on, she's on fire. And it doesn't hurt that she towers over everyone, especially poor Shun. (Yes, I like Makaze. And Kacha. And *gasp* Mirio. It doesn't get in the way of liking Tomomin, Morie, and all the others.)

Musumeyaku again - Otohana Yuri was underutilised, but good :) Shizuku gave a great performance in her last Star shinko, but Seara was the one who stood out for me - completely stealing her scenes with delightful evil. I'll be watching out for her.

Marimo's one of my favourites, dating from Legend ver 2 just like Tomomin and Makaze. I have to admit I liked her Penelope more than KotoKoto's - there was more strength and fire to her, more agency.

Junna! I actually managed to recognise her by voice. I can't wait for her Prince of Verona, because her voice is the definition of Knock Them Dead.

And to finish with, Shiiran. She managed to match Toyoko at taking the boring episodic role of Edwin and infusing it with meaning - no mean feat indeed.

On top of all that, the curtain-call speeches were cuteness personified. Otohana Yuri almost broke down crying, and all the while behind her Tomomin was going "OMG I have to speak when she's done!!!", which in Tomomin-expressions translates to "determined pouty wide-eyed frown" that drove Mariya and Shun to giggles. Tomomin did get through her speech with only stumbling seriously once ♥ She's one of the shining ones, but she's gone a long way from this to current Sky Stage eloquence :)

Ah~ Baby-Escamillo! I'm glad to hear she had a good shinko! I'm always nervous for the babies when I watch them. It has to be so terrifying! I'm also glad to hear Makaze was good. She's really good but she still has her moments of looking like she wants to hide behind the upperclassman. She'll be fun to watch grow more.

They're all so lucky to have had such wonderful shows to do shinkos with!

Yes, this. Both Tomomin's Tyrian and Mariya's Gilda were teetering on the brink on insanity and damaged and desperate. Where Touko and Asuka were turned that same damaged-ness into cold mercilessness towards the world that showed them no mercy, Tomomin and Mariya were so desperately fighting and passionate and alive. It was like watching a completely different show.

Ahaha, Renta. I think she really was being delusional at the end.

When this one's on, she's on fire.

Yep. I think Makaze does better at 'lower-class' sort of roles. I realised this in ScaPim where she blew me away as an angry peasant in honkoen and then was so boring as Armand in shinko. She needs kind of angry, kind of dirty, kind of sleazy sorts of roles.
